Introduction to the study of the deconfined phase of QCD and the phenomenology of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The lectures will deal with:
- Introduction to heavy-ion collisions and the deconfinement transition;
- Thermodynamics of relativistic quantum field theories;
- Global symmetries of QCD, implications for hadronic and nuclear physics and the chiral phase-transition;
- The Hagedorn model and the Hadron-Resonance Gas;
- Gluon saturation and the initial state of heavy-ion collisions;
- Ideal and dissipative relativistic hydrodynamics;
- The hard probes of the medium: jet-quenching;
- The hard probes of the medium: heavy-flavour particles;
- Kinetic theory of a relativistic gauge plasma;
- The liquid-gas phase transition of nuclear matter
